The 12-week travel series makes a stab at humor with this offbeat installment called East Meets Wax. Ruby Wax, an American-born British comic, goes to the Soviet Union offering an inside view of the Soviet people. Wax, who calls herself a “carrier pigeon of Western civilization,” mostly misses the target. She is funny trying to provoke her humorless translator. Mostly the show is as witty as a U.S.-Soviet joint communiqué. Just say nyet.
