MTV (Thursdays, 10:30 p.m. ET)

Sort of a reality spin on Barbershop, this half-hour series promises to be a loose, easygoing good time. The Shop is in Jamaica, Queens, and was started in 1996 by music producer Cory Rooney (he’s worked with Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Simpson). Mr. Rooney drops in, pleased to be proprietor of this little enterprise, and he’s followed in by hip-hop stars (Busta Rhymes will be one). They get a trim and ruminate about their careers. And the barbers yammer from one chair to the next, talking about everything from who should have swept up the floor the previous night to the videos playing on a screen on the back wall. The show manages to seem formless while skimming along lightly. Real good buzz.
