Brooke (Key Exchange) Adams and Brian (Cocoon) Dennehy are two likable actors—so likable, in fact, that even after watching them wallow through this nonsensical flick, one is left with some affection for them. In a hybrid of The African Queen, Romancing the Stone and Kay O’Brien, Adams plays a jungle doc who needs medicine so she can cure a tribe and cancel the curse they put on her. She goes for help to truck driver Dennehy. Then she comes into possession of an avocado-size diamond. So bad guys chase both of them through jungles and monsoons. But the drama droops under the hot African sun: As Adams and Dennehy stand on a log with nooses around their necks, a silly millimeter away from death, a snake crawls to their feet. Don’t bother getting on the edge of your chair. Dennehy simply kicks the snake off-camera. If that’s how much attention is paid to tension, you can imagine how much is paid to plot.
