This six-sided, mostly live LP from the celebrated Last Waltz Concert in November 1976 is something of a treasure. There is the Band itself, an ever-tasteful, pretense-free rock group, doing classic pieces like Up on Cripple Creek, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down and The Weight. Then there are cameo performances by Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Van Morrison and some thrilling blues guitar by Eric Clapton. Emmylou Harris harmonizes on a new Band studio cut. And what Band appearance would be complete without a five-song guest shot by Bob Dylan? This album is in the same distinguished league as the Monterey, Woodstock and Bangladesh concert LPs. A major musical statement.
