Though it’s sloppy in spots, this is the best he-she comedy to appear in a long time. The leads, Dayle Haddon (Nick Nolte’s companion in North Dallas Forty) and Frenchman Gerard Ismael, are quite sexy, hopping in and out of the sack together. The plot is amusing: She is an American magazine editor who decides to run a contest to choose the last romantic lover in France, while he is a lion tamer whose circus is going out of business because of the death of its only lion. He enters her contest to earn some money, and the complications create a romp that can best be described as a French fairy tale. This deserves to be one of the sleepers of the year, a popular import in the tradition of Cousin Cousine. (In French with English subtitles) (R)
