Linda Evans, sporting a George Hamilton tan, falls in love with an Australian cattle rancher, quits her L.A. waitress job, gets married, flies to the Outback with her two kids and finds out that her new hubby just died. Poor Linda fights Mother Nature and Jason Robards—the evil rancher next door—to keep her cows alive in a drought; she falls in love with Jason’s son, Jack (Breaker Morant) Thompson; she gets an even deeper tan. This four-hour, two-night, Australian-produced miniseries is put together like some connect-the-dots picture—except somebody forgot to connect the dots. The plot doesn’t get played out; it gets talked about between clichés: “It’s such a vast wilderness out there. Only the strongest survive….” What’s true of the Outback is true of this mini.
