Read by Jodie Foster

Foster reads with charm this tale of greed by the Brothers Grimm. When a henpecked fisherman frees a hooked flounder that happens to be an enchanted prince, his wife demands a reward. Her wish list takes the couple from fetid hovel to gilded palace, and when the spoiled woman demands to live like the Lord, back to hovel. Diana Bryan’s cutout illustrations add a dimension to the text, which can be tiresome, what with all the nagging.

Van Dyke Parks’s whimsical score sets the mood, and the audio formats add 23 minutes of music after the fish story.
