“There’s a lot of phoniness in this family,” says Dawn Marie, one of 10 members of an Italian-American clan occupying a Palm Beach, Fla., mansion while they vie for $1 million. This whole reality series (airing till late April) seems so fake that I figure the house itself must be a digital illusion. The Big Brother formula has a twist—the secret “board of trustees” voting to eliminate contestants is actually the household staff—but the familial backstabbing is a bore. The presence of host George Hamilton, whose tongue has been stuck in his cheek for years, suggests that the producers are going primarily for laughs. Yawns are what they get.
