It’s WWII and Knightley beseeches her departing soldier hubby (Murphy), “Come back to me.” Unfortunately, that plea and a wartime setting are all 2007’s Atonement shares with this period film about the messy romantic life of hard-drinking Welsh poet Dylan Thomas (Rhys, of TV’s Brothers & Sisters). Knightley plays a childhood pal for whom he still carries a torch, while Miller plays his promiscuous wife. It’s all surprisingly tedious, a sort of soggy mood piece about love among destitute bohemians. Only Miller, cocking her fedora, shakes off the doldrums.
