When Lee Iacocca and the Ford Motor Co. developed the Mustang, they fueled the fantasies of several writers. Arthur Hailey’s Wheels, NBC’s miniseries about the creation of a revolutionary car, had a nice run last year, but Harold Robbins’ lurid best-seller The Betsy got the most mileage out of the idea. The 1978 movie version, here shown on TV for the first time, was so bad everyone had to see it. Laurence Olivier, Robert Duvall, Katharine Ross, Tommy Lee Jones and Jane Alexander chew up the vinyl upholstery and each other, but Lesley-Anne Down’s nude scenes were recalled for the TV showing.
