In 824 pages this book offers brief job descriptions and salary ranges of almost everyone, from accountants to zoologists. It’s always fun to read that Burt Reynolds gets $5 million a film and that Brooke Shields got $1.5 million to make Sahara. But this update of a 1982 edition also offers more serious information. A section on women’s wages demonstrates that they are still paid less than men, and that one big employer persisting in this policy is the federal government. (Avon, paper, $9.95)
