The latest Survival special focuses on some of the 8,600 species of our fine feathered friends. Despite a sometimes loony narration by George Plimpton (“Hello,” he greets us in full Indian headdress, “or rather, ‘How’… I’m Big Chief George”), it’s an informative and meticulously assembled study, smartly paced and visually stimulating. Above and beyond these creatures’ diversity and beauty, their capacity for flight makes them born film stars.
