Charly McClain

McClain is a popular singer whose appeal is that she is totally, relentlessly, pleasingly predictable. While McClain hasn’t changed noticeably since her first hit in 1980, she never sounds bored with what she’s doing and keeps up a refreshingly lively approach to basic country tunes. Her husband and sometime duet partner, Wayne Massey, appears on this LP as co-producer and background singer, but McClain gets along fine on her own with such tracks as Old Flame, New Fire, by Bob McDill and Paul Harrison, and Blue, a Larry Cordle-Larry Shell tune that ranks up there with the Crystal Gayle hit Don’t It Make Your Brown Eyes Blue in ophthalmological mood music.
