This sextet hails from Pontypridd, Wales, but they look and sound like a bunch of California skate punks. Unfortunately, on their sophomore CD, Lostprophets don’t offer anything that you haven’t already heard before from Golden State alt-metal acts like Incubus, Hoobastank and Linkin Park. Although they bring a hard-rock crunch and testosterone-fueled energy to thrashers like the single “Last Train Home,” their routine riffs and generic lyrics fail to really Start Something. “Every day we’re getting older/ And every day we all get colder,” frontman Ian Watkins sings on the mediocre “Make a Move.” Elsewhere, Lostprophets rip off Seal’s “Killer” on the punkish “Burn, Burn” and strive to make an epic statement on the 10-minute-plus “Sway.” You won’t be swayed by the results.
