>ON BEING AN ELVIS IMPERSONATOR

My first show as Elvis was in Japan [at age 5] with my father’s band. If it weren’t for that, I wouldn’t be comfortable onstage. [He also appeared as an impersonator in Honeymoon in Vegas.] If this music thing doesn’t work, I’ll put the Elvis suit back on!

ON HIS THROWBACK SOUND

I grew up listening to all of those doo-wop songs. They are really simple and straight to the point. And I was rocking a pompadour at 4— it’s something I’ve been doing for a minute.

ON WHAT INSPIRES ROMANTIC TUNES LIKE “NOTHIN’ ON YOU”

I have four sisters, and all my life I’ve heard about what their boyfriends do and don’t do. That’s why I write such sappy songs.

ON BILLY JOEL’S “JUST THE WAY YOU ARE”

It’s an incredible song, one of my favorites. When I wrote my own song [with the same title], I definitely thought of that. And there are only so many words in the English dictionary!
