In her much-touted Jan. 18 debut on Saturday Night Live, the show’s newest player – hired amid criticism of the cast’s lack of black women, and only the fifth in its history – acquitted herself well. (First words: “Mazel tov!” in a genial skit about rapper Drake’s black-Jewish bar mitzvah.) SNL sage Lorne Michaels allowed Zamata to wet her feet without taking a high-dive plunge. But I hope she does soon. She held the Studio 8H cameras with self-assured spark.
