O’Donoghue and the Saturday Night Live crowd are also involved in this cartoon that makes Fritz the Cat look as innocent as Sylvester. The story is a Tarzan takeoff, with a hero, Shame, who can hardly keep his pants up. An evil (and bald) queen, who wants to kidnap Shame’s girlfriend, June, for a hair transplant, sends a legion of horny creatures out to do the deed, thereby arousing Shame and his trusty simian sidekick to acts of valor. The story, such as it is, is merely an excuse for a lot of sophomoric dirty jokes. Though John Belushi and Bill Murray provided some of the cartoon characters’ voices, and SNL writer Anne Beatts co-wrote the dialogue with Mr. Mike, the focal point of most of the movie is copulating animals. Some of America’s most sophisticated talents come off like adolescents who’ve just discovered sex. (R)
