When a show tries too hard to jerk tears, it makes you just want to close your eyes. Sentimental Journey mauls your tear ducts with grappling hooks. Jaclyn Smith and David Dukes, two fine actors who were married in George Washington, are married again in this modern drama about a successful producer (Smith) and her actor husband (Dukes) who adopt an 8-year-old girl. The kid doesn’t like Jaclyn. “I had a mother once,” she says, “and she didn’t want me. She left me when I was little. I don’t want a mother.” Cue the violins. Mother and daughter are soon brought together by tragedy. But the real tragedy is that Smith and Dukes are trapped in this smarmy vehicle and can’t get out.
