Robert Rauschenberg

Like the drawings, paintings and sculpture of Rauschenberg, now 56, his photographs reflect, often movingly, the objects, forms and rhythms of everyday life. These shots include many American flags, neon signs and window displays. Among the few people who show up are Rauschenberg’s former wife, Sue, and choreographer Merce Cunningham, Many of the 122 black-and-white photos are elegantly observed abstractions. Others are funny (the Mutt Hut, a canine beauty salon in Baltimore), sad (a shattered neon sign in Fort Myers, Fla.) or oddly reassuring (a lamp burning inside a window in Boston).
