So much for those nice sunlit French movies with lots of food, kids and good feeling. This is a serious attempt to deal with rape, and it mostly succeeds. A young nurse on her way to a friend’s house is kidnapped by four men and brutally attacked. Telling her family and friends what happened, then finally going to the police and testifying in court is no less an ordeal. Nathalie Nell, in the lead role, is superb. The rape scene itself is especially savage and must have been difficult for Nell, but later she convincingly transforms herself from tearful victim to vengeful plaintiff. Halfway through the film, director Yannick Bellon tends to digress into lecturing on the plight of women in general, which dilutes the drama. Otherwise, it is a stunning, provocative job.
