by Antonia Fraser

Heroine Jemima Shore is host of her own intellectual TV talk show in London when she gets word that an old school chum, a nun at the convent they had both attended as schoolgirls, has died under mysterious circumstances. Thus unfolds Fraser’s first novel, after several much-praised histories. It is a slight entertainment about ancient tunnels, a legendary black nun, hysterical girls and some simpleminded members of the upper classes. “Do nuns wear bras?” is asked a couple of times, but alas—although all the other mysteries are wrapped up neatly—the question remains unanswered.
