Muppets: The Green Album

Even snooty Miss Piggy would approve this alt-rock set (with tunes written for or sung by the Muppets), especially OK Go’s funked out “Muppet Show Theme Song” and My Morning Jacket’s Beatles-ish “Our World.” []

GRACE JONES

Hurricane

The pop icon’s first album since 1989 mixes lush reggae-rock with balmy disco. She shocks as usual when singing of birthing sheep and being “a man-eating machine” and stretches her growl on the emotional “William’s Blood.” []

COBRA STARSHIP

Night Shades

The pop-punkers, known for the Leighton Meester-assisted hit “Good Girls Go Bad,” deliver more electro-boogies. Most groove-worthy are “Anything for Love,” a nod to ’80s synth, and the pulsing “You Make Me Feel.” []

KINDRED THE FAMILY SOUL

Love Has No Recession

The duo tackle urban decay (“Take a Look Around”) and poverty (“We All Will Know”) with lyrical acumen. But the richest moments? Old-fashioned love songs such as “2 Words.” []
