Comedy Central (Weeknights, 10 p.m. ET)
Imagine The McLaughlin Group after the panelists have had a few beers, and you’ll get an idea of what Politically Incorrect is like. Now in its third season, this series proves comedy and politics aren’t much different. Comic Bill Maher serves as moderator and, with four guests, discusses the day’s issues. The show’s gimmick is booking panelists as diverse as Patty Hearst, National Enquirer editor Mike Walker and actor Robert Townsend on the same show, but Politically Incorrect is no novelty act. The discussions may not have intellectual depth, but they are always funny and, as evidenced by a recent show about the state of journalism, more insightful, thanks to the panel’s diversity. Maher is the perfect host, moving the program swiftly with his ability to crack wise one minute and make a cogent point the next.
