Satire is one risky business. You get your hits and you get your misses. Not Necessarily the News consistently gets just enough hits to make every episode worth watching. In its special about Washington, NNTN scores a bull’s-eye on Oliver North with a commercial for Crazy Ollie, the arms dealer with prices that are insaaaane! The show hits Fawn Hall with a new product for the busy Washington secretary: a pocket shredder. It hits condom ads with a scientific test for a brand “up to 12 times stronger”—filling two samples from an orange-drink cooler until Brand X bursts. And, of course, it hits TV evangelists with NNTN’s genius for taking quotes out of context—”Any form of sexual expression is considered correct,” says Pat Robertson. Sure, there are plenty of misses, and I miss Rich Hall doing what he does best: sniglets. But NNTN’s D.C. special still scores.
