>TRASH PICK OF THE WEEK: ASSAULT OF THE KILLER BIMBOS
Guinness alert! This B movie hit theaters on May 6. Now—whoom—it’s in the video stores. A speed record? Anyway, the R-rated Bimbos—not as crude as the title suggests—is a pleasant surprise. Two go-go dancers (Christina Whitaker and Elizabeth Kaitan) falsely accused of murdering their sleazy boss flee the cops by car. They take waitress Tammara Souza hostage, but they’re good at heart (they pull over mid-chase to do a makeover on Kaitan, who needs ego boosting). Debuting director Anita Rosenberg gives the humor an unexpected feminist twist. The males, including surf simps Griffin O’Neal, Nick Cassevetes and Jamie Bozian, are clearly the real bimbos. Primitive as it is, this film easily shames the bigger-budget laugh efforts below. (Urban Classics).
GOLDIE TARNISHED: OVERBOARD Overkill is more like it as Goldie Hawn and real-life mate Kurt Russell try to out-cute each other and a bunch of kids in this alleged comedy of mistaken identity. (CBS/Fox)
GOLDBERG FLEECED: FATAL BEAUTY They cut the interracial love scenes between cop Whoopi Goldberg and bodyguard Sam Elliott; what’s left is a foulmouthed farce unworthy of The Color Purple star. (MGM/UA)
A COS-TASTROPHE: LEONARD PART 6 Tops on TV, Bill Cosby, they said, could do no wrong. Then he did this. (RCA/Columbia)
