MAUDE: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON This All in the Family spinoff debuted in 1972 with Golden Girls‘ Bea Arthur giving an iconic, still funny performance as Archie Bunker’s cousin, the boomingly loud, proudly liberal Maude Findlay. The show caused a huge media storm with episodes 9 and 10: Maude gets an abortion.

MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN: VOLUME 1 Another ’70s classic from Maude producer Norman Lear, this soap-opera parody starred Louise Lasser as a depressed mouse of a housewife. The humor—utterly deadpan—holds up. So does Lasser’s weird numb pathos.
