May is National Public Radio’s first “Arts Month,” and the bill of fare ranges from a revival of the George and Ira Gershwin musical Lady Be Good (written in 1924 for the hot new brother-and-sister dance team of Fred and Adele Astaire) to performances by the late maestro Arturo Toscanini to biographies of poets Carl Sandburg and Ezra Pound. There are also interviews with photographer Richard Avedon, classical guitarist Carlos Montoya, author Marilyn (The Women’s Room) French and pianist Vladimir Horowitz.
