COUNTRY

For her 10th studio disc, Martina McBride employs country music’s secret weapon, producer-guitarist Dann Huff, who has worked with everyone from Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban to Faith Hill. The result is a consistently rewarding set that puts a new polish on the star (though the production can get too slick in spots). McBride smoothly goes from the upbeat (“Ride,” the driving first single) to the bittersweet (“I’m Trying,” the best of the ballads). She even includes a timely nod to the recession (“Don’t Cost a Dime”). But she shines brightest on the breakup anthem “Wrong Baby Wrong Baby Wrong.”
