There is usually something hollow-sounding about a band that tries to stay together after its leader dies. (Witness the Tommy Dorsey or Ellington groups, for example.) But Bob Wills’ Playboys—perhaps because Wills died less than three years ago—seem to have maintained their verve and polish under the old steel-guitar man, Leon McAuliffe. Stay All Night, Stay a Little Longer makes you want to go raise a barn somewhere.
