Picks and Pans Review: Let the Hard Times Roll
There is something studied about the music and presentation of this six-man band from the Ohio Valley. Their model seems to be the country superband Alabama, arguably country’s winningest group. The game plan here is to churn out mainstream country songs for the recession-weary blue-collar crowd. Let the Hard Times Roll and Making a Living’s Been Killing Me are both upbeat songs about downbeat situations. The rest of the 10 tunes are about the travails of modern romance churned out with lots of harmonizing amid full-bodied country instrumental arrangements featuring plenty of steel guitar, a dash of dobro and just enough electricity to keep the corn pone hot. While there is little that’s innovative in the sound, the music is competently played. Alabama, here they come.
