TALKS TO

Tell us about your new album.

I worked with a lot of new writers and producers like Pharrell and Sia. But some songs, like the title track, are throwbacks to classic Kylie— in the best possible way, I hope!

You’ve also been busy as a coach on both the U.K. and Australian versions of The Voice.

I’m two-timing because I have my guys in the U.K. and my guys in Australia! It’s very rewarding. I didn’t have a mentor [starting out], and it would have been nice to have someone help me deal with insecurities.

What were the pressures like for a young female pop star back then? Your image was so innocent.

I just did what felt right and natural for me. But at 22, I went through a phase where I wanted to rebel against wearing primary colors and smiling all the time and to feel free with my sexuality. I fully support all the girls who express themselves the way that works for them.

Nine years ago you underwent treatment for breast cancer. How’s your health now?

I’m good. I do my part for the cause, raising awareness and funds wherever I can.

Well, you look fantastic. What’s your secret?

I sleep upside down! [Laughs.] My hair and makeup guys are amazing.
