by Gahan Wilson

To Wilson, the answer is no. Best known for the gnarled monsters that appear in his Playboy drawings and his slightly more cerebral work for the New Yorker, Wilson leans to subjects like a lobster sitting down to dinner wearing a bib with a man drawn on it, or a wounded creature saying to a hunter, “You fool! There’s no more of me. That’s it! I’m the last of my species.” Wilson isn’t for everyone—among the institutions profaned here are Santa and the clergy—but he can often be wickedly funny.
