>”This is a different kind of love song for me. In love songs, typically the world disappears because you are falling in love. This is the opposite. Now, in 2013, it’s not as easy to make the world disappear. We’re just too connected as a society. I don’t know if the world is more messed up than ever, but if you watch the Middle East or the superstorms, it sure feels like it. And with the 24-hour news cycle and Twitter, we see devastation and death in real time, and we’re helpless. Who among us can figure out Syria? So it becomes more and more important to figure out how to make the world a better place on a smaller scale—look at your loved ones, your friends, your community. I wish I could go back and sing this at my wedding. It’s not unrealistic in any way. It’s saying, ‘The world is tough, but let me in and I’m never going anywhere.'”
