Picks and Pans Review: In Defense of a Married Man
ABC (Sun., Oct. 14, 9 P.M. ET)
Judith (Who’s the Boss?) Light and Michael (Twin Peaks) Ontkean, playing a married couple, fumble away a farfetched TV movie. She’s a high-powered criminal attorney who must defend him against charges of murdering his mistress (Cynthia Sikes).
There’s no sweetness to Light. Her manner is so forbidding—even with her children—that you can’t sympathize with her.
Ontkean, as he often does, comes across as a mannequin with a beautiful smile. He’s much too detached and hiply wardrobed to be believable as a corporate executive.
While there’s a glossy, modern look to the film and it has a fine secondary cast (Jerry Orbach, Pat Corley, Johnny Galecki), the center doesn’t hold.
