Barry White

The upbeat title song could startle any lovers who have already curled up on the sofa, dimmed the lights and filled the ice bucket in anticipation of one of White’s languorous “ooh, baby” soul-sex numbers. But they can settle down for the rest of the LP. Though lacking a really standout cut, it provides plenty of Barry’s deep whispers and sweet melodies on tunes such as Girl, What’s Your Name, Once Upon a Time (You Were a Friend of Mine) and Oh Me, Oh My. Two others—I Can’t Leave You Alone and Call Me, Baby—perhaps carry the style a bit too far toward monotony, but by then the folks on the sofa won’t care.
