Odyssey (RCA)

The vocal trio that defied the nation’s Manhattan-phobia with last year’s kicky hit Native New Yorker has returned with a polished, carefully planned new mix. Mostly upbeat, the songs (written by producer Sandy Linzer with Denny Randell and Charles Calello) have less of the insistent disco rhythm and more of a cabaret quality, but the classy reserve is still there. The cut Lucky Star is obviously meant to be the biggie, since it’s close enough to Odyssey’s previous smash to be called “Native Hackensacker.” But thanks to the tight harmony provided by Billy McEachern and the excellent lead vocals of Lillian and Louise Lopez, Party swings throughout.
