The Pointer Sisters

The three Pointers (Ruth, Anita and June) have tried lots of styles, including ’40s jazz, country-Western and pop. This LP reflects commercially safe R&B motifs, mostly of the hummable but sluggish “disco-pop” variety. Fortunately, the sisters cut loose from formulas for some hot, no-frills funk on tracks like I Need a Man and I’ll Get By Without You. Besides, any group that records a Stevie Wonder tune (Bring Your Sweet Stuff Home to Me) with the master himself sitting in on keyboard must have something going for it.
