She’s only 39 so there is no reason Collins’ voice ought to be deteriorating, but she does seem less capable of holding those translucent highs that have always been her trademark. That’s a little disconcerting but not crucial. Collins still is her sweet-voiced, soothing self most of the time, and her choice of material is as selectively imaginative as Sinatra’s or Ronstadt’s. Here Collins draws on Randy Newman (Marie), Stephen Sondheim (I Remember Sky), Rodgers and Hart (Where or When) and newcomer Henry Gaffney (Happy End), among others, all to pleasing effect. Even a slightly below par Collins is better than just about anyone else.
