>The series has spawned hit songs on iTunes and a new CD. Creator Ryan Murphy spills the secrets of his success.

HOW DO YOU PICK THE SONGS?

It’s based on my personal collection. I have songs earmarked for different cast members: Lea [Michele, center] and I always talked about “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”

HOW DO YOU GET THE RIGHTS?

I write letters to the artists, telling them how the song is going to be used and why it was important to me growing up.

ANYONE TURN YOU DOWN?

Cory [Monteith] wanted to sing “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You,” and Bryan Adams said no. That’s the only one.
