Harvey Mason

Drummer Harvey Mason is a musician’s musician who has backed up some of the best in the studio, from James Brown to Carole King to Henry Mancini. Along with the respect of his peers, he’s got a solo career going. On this, his fourth album, Mason guides an all-star team of jazz-rock fusion types (Bob James, Stanley Clarke, Lee Ritenour, Ray Parker Jr., David Spinozza and Verdine White among them) through a motley selection of mostly original tunes, slipping from disco to mellow ballads to easygoing funk. It’s good listening, but a letdown from such a heavy crew.
