James Earl Jones is sprung from prison after serving 20 years for killing a fellow Chicago police officer. He goes to work as an investigator for the attorney (Lailia Robins) who won his release. The initial episode is exotically scored, stylish and well acted, particularly Jones’s resourceful portrayal of a man adjusting to the world after two decades in the joint. I worry, though, that as the series moves further from prison and more into your standard TV plots, Jones won’t be afforded the substance to exercise his talents. At least the pilot, which will rerun in the show’s regular slot the following night at 9, merits a high mark.
