So this is college. For William Katt (Carrie), the golden days of autumn are filled with soccer games, scholarship jobs and Dante lectures. His nights are filled with beautiful Susan Dey (The Partridge Family). Although the film—like their love—falls short in the end, director Joan Darling has elicited glowing performances. Katt is strong and sensitive, while Dey melts the screen as the soft, seductive girl of his dreams. So what if the movie is sappy, simplistic and cliché-ridden? Weren’t we all in those days? (R)
