Chuck Mangione retains his title as one of the all-time jazz innovators. Backed by some talented musicians, notably Chris Vadala on saxes and flute, Mangione once again puts his moaning flugelhorn up front. But there is a surprise. The title track, along with Maui-Waui, is decidedly more middle-of-the-road, pop-rock than past endeavors. For purists, the familiar Mangione style (moody, that is) can be found in The XIth Commandment.
