Jill Clayburgh (and where has she spent the ’80s, pray tell?) stars in this thriller as a domineering soap opera producer. A creep who has stolen her purse begins to terrorize her, messing with her bank accounts and making disruptive calls to friends and business associates.

Clayburgh is appropriately strident as a powerful woman coming apart at the seams as she is exposed to the unaccustomed currents of fear and manipulation. But the film poses its premise (he who grabs your purse strings also steals your psyche) as a widespread feminist issue. In fact, until the final scenes, the villain in Fear Stalk seems more prankish than he does menacing.
