En Vogue

AWOL for close to five years, En Vogue came storming back on the strength of the still smoldering single “Don’t Let Go (Love).” The song’s tough sound set the stage for what fans hoped would be a significant rebound for a girl group that at one time set the standard for elegant yet in-your-face pop. Well, think again. EV3 is an uneven and remarkably spiritless effort. A reprise of “Don’t Let Go (Love)” is the lone highlight. Unfortunately it is sung by Dawn Robinson, who has since left the group. In their prime, En Vogue spawned a host of imitators. Alas, they no longer go beyond the pale. (Elektra)
