World Party

After a four-year hiatus, Karl Wallinger, the lone genius who disguises himself as a band, is back. Hiding behind the collective moniker World Party, Wallinger writes, performs and produces music the Beatles and Kinks would be making if those groups were somehow transported, ’60s personnel and creativity magically intact, to the ’90s. Though World Party’s best album probably remains 1990’s Goodbye Jumbo, Egyptology finds Wallinger once again excavating high-level, evocative pop-rock. (The Enclave)
