Danny McBride (Tropic Thunder, Pineapple Express) plays an ex-pitcher on his way down, down, down, thanks to bad attitude, bad language and, arguably, bad hair—his perm looks as if it were modeled on Michael Jackson’s Thriller days. He moves back to his hometown, bunks with his brother and takes a job teaching phys ed at the middle school. Despite the guy’s stupendous coarseness, the tone is lighter and more deadpan than you’d expect. That may have something to do with Will Ferrell—a specialist in jolly, button-eyed morons—serving as an executive producer.
