Think of this docudrama as Easy Flier. Based on a true story, it stars Dennis Hopper as drug-running pilot Barry Seal, whose life seemed destined for a crash landing.
Seal smuggled drugs into the U.S. for Colombia’s Medellin cartel in the early 1980s until he was arrested and turned informant. He’s precisely the sort of character Hopper lives to play.
This film argues too much that after Seal helped the government, it deserted him. Seal’s sudden patriotic urges aren’t convincing. Still, Hopper’s live-wire performance charges things up, and it’s always nice to see a TV movie that has a point of view.
