Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dennis Rodman, Mickey Rourke

Lack the cash to join a fancy gym? Learn from Van Damme. Playing a spy trying covertly to rehabilitate himself from some injuries, he lifts buckets filled with gravel and pumps porcelain by hefting an overflowing bathtub. Double Team, an action thriller, also offers the diverting spectacle of NBA cutup Dennis Rodman delivering his lines as if trash-talking to a referee, not to mention his modeling of a half dozen hair colors, two nose ornaments and multiple tattoos. Directed in typical Hong Kong-style overdrive by Tsui Hark, Double’s pointlessly packed plot has Van Damme and Rodman battling bad-guy Rourke. None of this is dramatically challenging, but there is a wingding of a finale featuring a man-hungry tiger, land mines and Rodman on a motorcycle. Vroom, vroom. (R)
