SHOWTIME (6-7:30 p.m. ET)

Diana Ross’ free Central Park concert already has made headlines. One would-be sponsor backed out when Diana allegedly demanded to keep her high-priced costumes. That was followed by a hand-holding press conference with New York’s Mayor Ed Koch, who announced that Diana will have a playground in the park named after her when the concert is over. Last year’s Simon and Garfunkel concert in Central Park was videotaped for cable. This time the concert will be broadcast live. It’s the first such live concert on a pay-TV network. A crowd of nearly 500,000 is expected. Reach out and touch someone, Miss D.
